October 1, 2009 - Street Art Reach Event

Wow!!!! That is the word that kept running over and over again in my head last night. What an amazing night it was. All of the youth were so excited and just could not believe how beautiful everything looked. The goal of this project was to help the youth to accomplish a goal which they did not believe was possible and I think that we definitely did that.

There are so many great stories about what happened last night, but there is one that stood out to me the most. When I first met this artist she was sleeping outside in front of a Japanese restaurant. The front entrance had carpeting on it and she said she preferred sleeping there because the carpet made it feel a little bit more like being in a house. When she first joined the art group she was a little bit reluctant because she said she had never painted before and did not think that she had any talent. As the group went on she started to try and do some painting and as you guys saw she produced some amazing pieces. When she paints it is like she is in another world, she gets totally immersed in what she is doing. She told me that when she is at the Art group it is the only time that she doesn't feel that she needs to do drugs to feel good. She was so happy to get her hair done and wear a new dress. Her Parents came to event last night and they were shocked by how beautiful their daughter looked and the paintings that she had done. Last night she called at around 11:30 and left a message on my cell phone: "Please tell everyone thank you so much for everything that they did. It was better than anything I could have imagined!" My hope is that She will take this experience and start to wonder about what else is possible in her life which she previously thought could never happen. Thank you again for all of your hard work and the dedication that you put in to this event.

Sincerely

Jason Pino

UNB Cross Country

“I would like to once again thank you for your support of the team this year.  Your contributions have covered around one fifth of what we spent. It has made some individual runners lives a lot easier.

If just 25 people would get involved on an annual basis we could cover the present budget.  If we could come up with a few more then the team could start to grow again.”

Sole Responsibility is a grassroots organization based in Ottawa whose mission is to provide footwear to the displaced people of the world.
